Longji Rice Terraces

Guilin Scenic Area

Longji Rice Terraces

Longji Rice Terraces, located in Longsheng County, about 100 km north of Guilin, are some of China’s most famous terraced fields. Built more than 650 years ago, these magnificent terraces wind around the hillsides like a dragon’s scales—hence the name “Dragon’s Backbone.” They stretch from the river valley up to altitudes of 1,100 meters, showcasing harmony between human labor and nature.

🌿 Highlights:

  • Breathtaking views: Endless layers of green in spring and summer, golden waves in autumn, and snowy patterns in winter
  • Ethnic culture: Home to Zhuang and Yao minority villages with traditional wooden houses and vibrant customs
  • Famous spots: “Seven Stars with the Moon”, “Nine Dragons and Five Tigers”, and panoramic viewpoints over Ping’an and Dazhai villages

🚶‍♂️ Things to Do:

  • Hike through terraced fields and forested trails between traditional villages
  • Photograph the changing scenery in different seasons
  • Experience local minority culture, food, and handicrafts
  • Stay in a mountain guesthouse for sunrise and sunset views
